With Fire and Sword is an interesting one. Basically, Warband is the crowning achievement of the series (thus far-fingers crossed for Bannerlord) and the standard by which the rest of the series is judged. However, by far the best thing about Warband is its sheer flexibility for making mods the vast, vast majority of fan-made modules are designed for the Warband engine. It also includes the Viking Conquest (Dark Age Europe) and Napoleonic Wars (multiplayer-only 18th-19th century Europe) DLC modules, if you're into that sort of thing.
Bug fixes, a more in-depth political system, a revampled combat model, a multiplayer mode, and a lot more. This takes the original game and improves on it in pretty much every way. However, there's no reason to be playing it (apart from certain mods that require it) when you can play. It's a decent game that stands up on its own merits. The original is a fairly straightforward implementation of the M&B concept in the setting of Calradia.
